Integration of Bootify at Cloudflight
As a service provider for a wide range of companies and industries, we regularly launch new Spring Boot projects. After careful analysis, we selected Bootify's Enterprise Plan and were able to improve the associated processes and optimize the use of our resources at the same time.
Starting point
Until now, we had maintained our own starter projects for various application scenarios as Git repositories. It was time-consuming and challenging to keep the source code up to date and flexible. Although a lot of time had been invested, using the starters in actual projects always came along with difficulties.
Copy and paste of existing projects was also practiced, but not a good solution either: bad ideas live on and the projects are very inconsistent, so new employees require lots of time to get used to them. This is where we came across Bootify and wanted to find out if the customizable templates were strategically the right next step for us.
Preparation and integration
We started by examining key points to make an informed decision in favor of or against Bootify.
- Assessment of code quality
- Assessment of usability in our projects
- Long-term planning capability
The quality of the features in the Free and Professional plan was consistently impressive. Although other implementation approaches could be chosen in specific cases, the code is very close to the standard and can be easily adapted if necessary.
For the integration into existing projects, our DevOps team added their own options, files and build scripts to Bootify. All features of the Enterprise plan could easily be understood and used. It was necessary to adapt our projects to the code generated by Bootify in some cases, which could be realized with reasonable effort and standardizes our projects in the long run.
Using Bootify is connected with very few risks for us, in particular there are no dependencies in ongoing projects. We were particularly impressed by the direct, reliable communication with Thomas, who was able to quickly resolve all obstacles. After clarifying legal issues and signing the contract, the Docker image was immediately available. Thomas was able to provide minor extensions for better usability - e.g. an automatic login - without any complications and at short notice.
Results
All outstanding questions and obstacles were resolved successfully and we are using Bootify's Enterprise Plan without any problems since October 2024. A new version of the image is released at the end of each month so that all libraries and the base code are always up to date. The running costs are significantly lower than investing our own resources in providing a template. At the same time, our project structure is streamlined and the numerous features of Bootify greatly simplify the creation and maintenance of new projects.
